Hi! I’m Jan Nichols, a partner and the person in charge of the way things sound at Market Arts Creative. I started out as a chubby-cheeked midwestern farm girl who dreamed of becoming an opera diva. Instead, I’m now the host of Conversations with Creative Minds where I get to talk with fascinating people about the practice and practical application of creativity in their lives.
Those who know me well might wonder how I can ever stop talking long enough to ask questions. Speaking from experience, listening to people with something to say is every bit as rewarding as hamming it up on stage.
After leaving the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a graduate degree in voice performance, I headed to New York City. It was definitely “Green Acres” gone Manhattan in search of the Metropolitan Opera. After countless auditions and more hours in a practice room than a first class felon spends in lock-up, I realized that French and German art song were not a reliable source of income. Finally, the starving artist (not that you could tell by looking) took a day job in advertising and discovered that agency work is not so very different from being on stage.
